That's a wrap on season 4 of KRTS Youth Media! This year our students initiated challenging dialogue with school administrators, delved into nationally relevant topics, and got to know new parts of their community. For their final projects, they produced 2 new feature length stories and 1 additional news spot. Look out for news on the future of this year's content with PBS Student Reporting Labs! Give us a listen:

The students finished their spots just in time for Marfa Public Radio's spring membership drive. We aired the spots and had Joel Hernandez come in for a little pitch on air. You can listen to their stories here:

KRTS Youth Media is back in action for 2016! We are kicking off our spring session by diving head first into producing content for air on KRTS. The focus of our first project will be Sonic IDs - short, community vignettes that air in between programming on Marfa Public Radio. In preparation, this week our students learned some basic interview skills and participated in a sound-walking exercise to explore the importance of ambient sound in a produced story. After brainstorming locations and local people to interview, our students are ready to begin sharpening their journalism skills over the weekend.

Next week, we will listen to all of our recorded tape and begin transcribing interviews for editing.
